The JET (Job Experience Training) program is a life and job skills
program designed to help at-risk students become employable and develop
into contributing members of the community. The target population
includes students aged 13 to 18 who are in need of guidance and
structure to prepare for a productive future. Classified and
non-classified teens that need more intensive job readiness training can
benefit from this program.
The JETS have specific job responsibilities assigned to them each
day. These responsibilities are performed at the Kateri Day Camp and may
include preparing arts and crafts materials for the younger campers and
helping with the general maintenance of the camp, trails and gardens.
In addition to their daily work responsibilities, the JET participants
take part in life skills training including anger management and
conflict resolution. Students discuss substance abuse awareness, healthy
lifestyle choices, and are taught to develop a budget, learn basic
banking skills, prepare a resume and practice interviewing for a job.
They also enjoy recreational activities including daily swim time and
sports. The program includes field trips and guests speakers. The goal
of these activities is to encourage teamwork and build self-confidence.
JET participants will be eligible to earn a stipend based on their
attendance and cooperative participation in all activities. They will be
evaluated on daily job performance including their general attitude.
Each day they will meet with their advisor to discuss their performance.
They will also have the opportunity to meet with the on-site social
worker.
JET is an eight-week summer program from Monday, June 28 to Friday,
August 20, 2010. Hours are 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The camp will be closed
on Monday, July 5th.
